The collaboration between Transcend and Royal HaskoningDHV – as part of the Transcend Nexus program – provides an accessible way to compare Royal HaskoningDHV’s Nereda® aerobic granular sludge technology against conventional treatment options during the capital planning and optioneering phases for global water projects.
Royal HaskoningDHV, an independent consultancy which integrates over 140 years of engineering expertise with technologies and software solutions, and Transcend, a B2B SaaS company building generative design engineering software for critical infrastructure, are pleased to announce that Royal HaskoningDHV’s Nereda wastewater treatment technology has been integrated into Transcend’s cloud-based platform – the Transcend Design Generator (TDG).
TDG enables wastewater treatment professionals to effortlessly optioneer and generate plans and engineering documents for a variety of water and wastewater treatment systems. This collaboration is part of Transcend’s Nexus Program, which enables technology suppliers to gain rapid market exposure for their treatment technologies by placing it in front of existing Trancend clients, which include some of the largest consulting engineering firms and asset owners in the world.
Currently available for a select group of Transcend customers, this new addition provides treatment professionals with an easy, hassle-free way to swiftly receive Nereda optioneering documents. The fully automated design tool powered by Transcend’s state of the art generative design software combines user specific project requirements with Royal HaskoningDHV’s and Transcend’s design know-how to generate a set of output documents created specifically for the Nereda technology.
In addition to generating designs for Nereda treatment systems, users can also compare Nereda treatment technology to other conventional treatment options in a ‘like-for-like’ comparison.
Nereda technology is based on harnessing aerobic granular sludge to provide a more sustainable and cost-effective way to robustly treat wastewater. It requires a quarter of the area of conventional activated sludge installations and the process can reduce up to 50% on energy costs. The award-winning technology was invented by the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and developed in a unique public-private partnership between the University, the Dutch Foundation for Applied Water Research (STOWA), Dutch Water Authorities and Royal HaskoningDHV.
The collaboration further supports Royal HaskoningDHV’s worldwide rollout of the Nereda technology that started in 2005 and was recognized by Global Water Intelligence as most important wastewater breakthrough technology of the last decade.
João Almeida, Global Director for Water Technology Products at Royal HaskoningDHV, says: “Transcend’s design generator is a fast and accessible web-based software that makes it easy to compare features of water technologies. While we continue to rely on our market leadership and delivery partners across the world to demonstrate and communicate the benefits of our technologies, through this collaboration with Transcend we aim to reach an even broader community of wastewater asset owners and engineering firms and help them during initial optioneering and feasibility studies with a proper like-for-like comparison between Nereda and other treatment techniques.”
Today, users working with TDG can automatically generate complete, accurate conceptual designs for a variety of water and wastewater treatment facilities including editable design documents that are native to the tools engineers already use – (e.g., Autodesk® Revit®, AutoCAD®, Microsoft Office & Excel, and others). The initial phase with Royal HaskoningDHV enables users to generate options for Greenfield Nereda facilities on new or existing sites, with plans to expand to retrofit and other configurations in the future.
Ari Raivetz, Transcend’s Founder & CEO, says: “Our mission since the beginning has been to enable utilities and engineering consultants with a trusted way to design, assess, and propose more innovative, sustainable options in wastewater treatment. Our Nexus program is the bridge between these entities and technology suppliers like Royal HaskoningDHV and their Nereda technology: one of the world’s greatest examples of treatment innovation in the sector.”
Royal HaskoningDHV’s Nereda technology has already been selected at over 120 plants across 22 countries worldwide and offers a sustainable, robust, and resilient wastewater treatment solution.
