This article is part of our feature on the future of wastewater in the U.S.’s fastest growing metro areas. We’re using the Transcend Design Generator to automatically build, expand, or upgrade regional wastewater treatment systems in each of these regions.
As we peruse the list of the 100 fastest-growing counties in the U.S., three stand out in the Houston region. Harris County tops the chart, Fort Bend County is not far behind at #11, and Montgomery County holds the #26 spot.
Interestingly, Houston’s sunny disposition might have something to do with its growth – the city enjoys a generous 2,633 annual sunshine hours, averaging out to a soul warming seven hours per day. This has led to an ambitious plan of setting up a 195 MW solar power plant in the city’s southern vicinity.
Now you might wonder, why discuss electricity in a conversation about wastewater treatment? For those who aren’t frequent visitors of our platform, it might come as a surprise that Transcend Design Generator (TDG) has broadened its horizon beyond water. Over the past year, we’ve ventured into various critical infrastructure projects, and one of our crown jewels is our substation designer tool.
In this spirit, we have used TDG to design a collector substation for the planned 195 MW solar plant near Houston. In this case, our software generated a Single Line Diagram (SLD) of the substation in just seconds! As TDG expands its footprint across various critical infrastructure use cases, we’re proving that our innovative approach can transcend engineering boundaries and power growth in more ways than one. Houston, we’re not just about water – we’re here to shine a light on your power needs too!
