I’ve just designed an entire treatment plant… now what?

Written by Adam Tank, Chief Customer Officer

When we first discuss the concept of water & wastewater treatment design automation with potential clients, we get one of two reactions:

1. I don’t believe you/your software can do this

Then they try the Transcend Design Generator… which leads to the second reaction

2. “What’s going to happen to my job?”

Like the draftsman or draftswoman who no longer has a physical drafting table because of AutoCAD, an engineer with TDG no longer needs to spend long hours copy/pasting technical descriptions in Word, reformatting tables in Excel, or creating a basic site plan in Revit. The tool has fully automated basic, repetitive design work to free up smart engineers to do more creative, innovative, and detailed work… ultimately providing more value to their clients – end users and utilities.

Firms who successfully adopt Transcend tools have the answer to our question – so I’ve designed a treatment plant, now what?’ Here are a few real world examples:

1. One firm, Stanley Consultants, is delivering projects on time and under budget by automating biological process design and associated documentation for their clients. In one example, Pinewood, AZ was delivered a high quality, engineered product through the use of TDG.

2. Another, Black and Veatch, used TDG to assess 10x the number of design options for a large utility in the Southern U.S. – ultimately arriving at a treatment configuration that hadn’t been part of the original plan, and delivered a better outcome to the utility.

3. One client, a large South American water utility, is using TDG as both a master planning tool and a training tool – creating the next generation of engineering talent within their organization and building more resilient, sustainable infrastructure.

We like to remind ourselves and our clients that it’s not the software that matters – it’s what you do with it that makes the difference. Software is only as good as the people that use it – and we at Transcend are aiming to help the smartest minds on earth do more valuable, creative, and enjoyable work through the use of our tools.
