5 lessons learned from a climate-focused CEO two years in

Written by Ari Rivatez, CEO of Transcend

Transcend turned two years old on December 19, 2021! I wanted to share 5 lessons learned during the past two years.

1) Clients are realizing substantial value from using design automation software.

Transcend Design Generator (“TDG”) is driving both sales growth and overall efficiency improvement. How do we know? Because all of our key clients have renewed and many have increased their subscriptions in 2022. In fact, one key client has increased their subscription 3x and will be broadening use across its global team. Once a business integrates design automation into its sales and/or project development workflow the value realization increases exponentially

2) Engineering firms are still slow to adopt.

While there are a number of true visionaries inside many of the leading EPCs, and many of these firms are our clients, most in the industry still move like Flash at the DMV in Zootopia. To build the next generation of critical infrastructure that will meet the enormous challenges posed by climate change, the industry MUST innovate and change at a MUCH faster pace. Transcend exists to help make this change a reality.

3) Utilities are losing patience.

Utilities across the world feel an increasing pressure to start planning this next infrastructure cycle, and it shows in their daily actions. We have had substantially more utilities than expected come to Transcend to discuss how they – and their suppliers – can leverage TDG software for alternatives evaluation and capital planning. They want to assess the latest climate-impacting technologies and how to incorporate them into the next project. The strongest interest has been from asset owners in the US, UK, ANZ, and SE Asia.

4) Design automation applies far beyond water

From practically day 1 we have experienced relentless interest from a broad coalition that is financing, designing, and building the next generation of all kinds of critical infrastructure. They all want to know how they can leverage software to evaluate more options, faster, with less resources. This includes sectors ranging from Hydrogen to Carbon Capture to Power Generation to Data Centers. We will have some exciting news on this front in the coming months, so stay tuned for more info soon.

5) Best Team Still Wins.

At the end of the day our success or failure was, is, and always will be determined by the team. We have put together an incredible group at Transcend; the talent, experience, resilience, and creativity amaze me daily. We are hiring for multiple positions now, including some on our leadership team. Check them out here!
