São Paulo, Brazil – July 15th, 2025 –SABESP, one of the largest water and wastewater utilities in the world, has entered into a long-term agreement with Transcend, the leader in generative design software for critical infrastructure, to bring automation and data intelligence to the early-stage planning and design of water & wastewater treatment facilities across 377 municipalities in the state of São Paulo.
The collaboration will enable SABESP’s planning & engineering teams to tackle the tremendous challenge ahead: to make the universalization of services by 2029. As part of this effort, SABESP will need to evaluate, plan, design, and potentially construct a lot of WWTPs to serve more than 28M people.
This initiative is part of SABESP’s new administration and a formal program of digital transformation the company has undertaken. SABESP’s digital & engineering teams have recognized that the Transcend Design Generator (TDG) technology is the best path to accelerate the evaluation of multiple treatment options with sufficient detail to find the best solutions for their population served. It also enables smart decision making at the point of greatest influence – planning & conceptual design – to help build resilient, future-proof infrastructure that’s necessary in a changing climate. By harnessing the power of generative design, SABESP aims to improve planning efficiency, reduce project development timelines, and increase the long-term sustainability of its infrastructure investments.
“This partnership marks a major milestone for SABESP as we pursue our goals of modernization and improved service delivery to millions of Brazilians,” said Denis Maia, Chief Commercial & Technology Officer. Marcel Sanches, SABESP’s Director of Planning & Engineering Projects, reiterates this belief – “We hope Transcend’s platform brings speed, standardization, and more intelligence to our planning process, allowing our teams to make better decisions—faster.”
Through the Transcend platform, SABESP engineers and planners will be able to:
- Rapidly generate dozens of preliminary designs for water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Analyze tradeoffs between CAPEX, OPEX, carbon footprint, land footprint, and more.
- Produce detailed conceptual design documentation, including PFDs, equipment lists, and 3D BIM models.
“We are honored to support SABESP’s vision for sustainable, equitable, and digital-first infrastructure,” said Ari Raivetz, CEO of Transcend. “Brazil is facing an enormous task of brining water access and sanitation to the majority of its population in the next decade, and SABESP taking a critical role in leading digital technology adoption that can help close that gap faster than ever before.”
The partnership is part of a broader initiative by SABESP to implement cutting-edge technology in alignment with the country’s sanitation goals under Brazil’s New Legal Framework for Basic Sanitation. With more than 28 million people in its service area, SABESP’s use of generative design has the potential to set a national standard for innovation and efficiency in the sanitation sector.’
“Innovation is the key to anticipating the targets set by the Legal Framework for Sanitation. With new technologies like this one, we gain agility in planning — a crucial factor for achieving universal access to services by 2029,” highlights Roberval Tavares de Souza, Executive Director of Engineering and Innovation at Sabesp.
To support the implementation of Transcend’s technology at SABESP, FF Solutions was selected as a strategic partner for onboarding, training, and team support. With a focus on innovation, efficiency, and results, the company will be responsible for structuring the implementation plan, informing and training users, and providing technical support to address specific business challenges.
“Being part of this movement represents, for FF Solutions, a direct contribution to the decisive progress toward universal sanitation in the State of São Paulo. Our role is to ensure that Transcend’s technology is seamlessly integrated into the engineering team’s daily operations, promoting greater agility in project delivery, increased accuracy in decision-making, and reliability in outcomes,” said Paulo Macedo, Strategic Project Manager at FF Solutions.
